A Texas Army National Guard<\/a> soldier assigned to Gov. Greg Abbott\u2019s highly touted border operation<\/a> went missing after trying to save a drowning migrant in the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The soldier jumped into the river just after 9:45 a.m., according to documents obtained by Military Times and The Texas Tribune. Despite removing his body armor before entering the Rio Grande, the soldier did not resurface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after the incident, rescue efforts began with search parties in boats and helicopters, the documents said. Dive teams arrived on site later in the morning, but the Guard member has not yet been found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report did not say whether the migrant survived.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
