{"id":48052,"date":"2022-08-22T19:27:57","date_gmt":"2022-08-22T19:27:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/uncategorized\/2022\/08\/22\/v-corps-troops-win-army-europe-and-africas-best-squad-competition\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T04:07:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T04:07:23","slug":"v-corps-troops-win-army-europe-and-africas-best-squad-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/news\/your-army\/2022\/08\/22\/v-corps-troops-win-army-europe-and-africas-best-squad-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"V Corps troops win Army Europe and Africa\u2019s \u2018Best Squad\u2019 competition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Soldiers from 2nd Cavalry Regiment representing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2022\/08\/01\/v-corps-home-in-poland-gets-new-name\/\" target=\"_blank\">V Corps<\/a> claimed the title of \u201cBest Squad\u201d Aug. 12 following this year\u2019s competition for soldiers within U.S. Army Europe and Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 96-hour competition tests \u201csquad members\u2019 physical strength, mental resilience and tactical and technical proficiencies in order to advance and compete in the Department of the Army-level Best Squad Competition later this Fall,\u201d the Army said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.army.mil\/article\/259447\/v_corps_soldiers_win_us_army_europe_and_africa_best_squad_competition_2022\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The newly crowned top squad will head to the Army-wide Best Squad competition in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to it; it\u2019ll be more difficult and the competition may be tougher, but we\u2019ll just have to train harder and get after it when we get there,\u201d Spec. Derek Peterson, a member of V Corps\u2019 winning squad, claimed both the title of \u201cTop Soldier\u201d and \u201cIron Soldier.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWinning this competition helped bring us together as a team and helped us further work out some of our flaws,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to the next competition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">V Corps\u2019 forward presence in Europe has been solidifying as of late. President Joe Biden announced at a NATO summit in Madrid this summer that the U.S. would make the V Corps headquarters at Camp Ko\u015bciuszko in Poland
