Charles Garrigus<\/a>, of Terra Haute Indiana, will be buried in Greenwood Indiana on a date not yet determined, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dpaa.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\">Defense POW\/MIA Accounting Agency<\/a> release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Garrigus served as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. Unit leadership reported Garrigus as missing in action on Dec. 1, 1950 during a battle near the Chosin Reservoir, North Korea, according to the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/news\/your-army\/2021\/09\/21\/korean-war-soldier-killed-in-1950-buried-after-remains-ided\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"211\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/AP21263706081849.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Korean War soldier killed in 1950 buried after remains identified<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Cpl. Walter Smead was laid to rest near his rural upstate New York hometown.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Searchers found no remains immediately after the battle nor any evidence that enemy forces held Garrigus as a prisoner of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sergeant\u2019s remains came to U.S. possession in a July 27, 2018 following a June summit between then-President Donald Trump and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un. North Korean officials transferred 55 boxes \u201cpurported to contain the remains of American service members killed during the Korean War, according to the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those remains arrived at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii on Aug. 1, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The account agency laboratory then processed the remains for identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The American Battle Monuments Commissions Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu contains an etching of Garrigus\u2019s name, according to the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A rosette will be placed next to the fallen sergeant\u2019s name on the memorial, indicating he has been accounted for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>For family and funeral information, contact the Army Casualty Office at (800)
