Maj. Benito A. Perez<\/a>, 51, received 179 days of confinement, a reduction in rank to sergeant first class and a written reprimand, said Fort Carson spokesperson Dee McNutt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perez pleaded guilty to one specification of indecent language in violation of Article 134 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and one specification of engaging in a prohibited relationship in violation of Article 92.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perez originally faced four charges of sexual assault, five charges of \u201cindecent\u201d communications and one charge of fraternizing with a junior soldier under his command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was not sentenced on any of the charges related to an underage victim that were originally included by prosecutors and documented on charge sheets provided to Army Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/gazette.com\/military\/fort-carson-soldier-headed-to-prison-for-inappropriate-relationships-with-women\/article_726d8c64-c90f-11eb-9320-a3090975c704.html\" target=\"_blank\">Colorado Gazette<\/a> reported that there were two alleged victims in the case who took the stand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One woman, a soldier previously under his command, testified that Perez made her feel \u201cobligated\u201d because of his rank to visit his office for closed door meetings, the Gazette reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/armytimes\/news\/your-army\/2021\/06\/01\/sergeant-major-faces-court-martial-over-child-sex-abuse-charges\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/6022624.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Sergeant major faces court-martial over child sex abuse charges<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The former senior enlisted leader of 4th Infantry Division Artillery faces court martial over multiple charges of sexual assault and indecent communications.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perez became \u201cunduly familiar\u201d with the junior soldier, who was a private first class, prosecutors said in the charge sheets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perez, who was a command sergeant major at the time, regularly called and texted the young soldier, requested that she send him photos, \u201corder[ed]\u201d her to his office for \u201cregular closed door personal meetings,\u201d touched her leg, hugged her and invited her to his home \u201cafter work hours,\u201d the charge sheets read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The other woman in the case was the victim in most of the charges against Perez, including incidents that took place when she was still under the age of 16. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The charges related to her being a minor were dropped as part of the plea agreement, the <a href=\"https:\/\/gazette.com\/military\/fort-carson-soldier-headed-to-prison-for-inappropriate-relationships-with-women\/article_726d8c64-c90f-11eb-9320-a3090975c704.html\" target=\"_blank\">Gazette reported<\/a>. However, the charge involving indecent text messages that Perez pleaded guilty to still involved this second victim. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perez served as the 4th Infantry Division Artillery\u2019s senior enlisted leader until January 2020. Before that, he was the command sergeant major for the division\u2019s 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team from 2014 to 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perez has been in the Army for 31 years, is a Desert Storm veteran and deployed multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan, according to service records reviewed by Army Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>Editor\u2019s note: This article has been updated to clarify that there were two victims in this case, and Sgt.
