While a beavertail is traditionally used to protect beefy hands from slide bite, Glock&#8217;s slide-on beavertail does a little more. It adds a tiny amount of girth to the top of the grip since it covers the existing grip tail. It&#8217;s a very subtle change that hasn&#8217;t had an obvious effect on the pistol&#8217;s point of aim. But, the lowered backstrap tail offers the equivalent of a slightly higher grip for better recoil control whether you have chunky or regular sized paws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The updated Glock backstrap kit includes new 2mm and 4mm beavertail backstraps, the familiar 2mm and 4mm standard backstraps, a trigger housing pin and a\u00a0new multifunction clip that has a built-in polymer pin punch suited to backstrap changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first pistols to see the beavertail backstrap kits are the G17\/G22 and G19\/23 and G20\/G21. The kits are finding their way into new Tupperware boxes as stocks of the older, two backstrap kits are used up. Eventually, all Gen4 Glocks will include the new backstrap kit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There will be five sizes of kits to cover the range of Gen4 pistols: G17\/G22, G19\/G23, G26\/G27, G20\/G21, and G29\/G30. Glock will only retail the kits in black, though they will be offered to distributors in colors keyed to distributor exclusive pistols, such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.militarytimes.com\/gearscout\/2012\/04\/02\/fde-glocks-coming-from-lipseys\/\">FDE framed pistols offered by Lipsey&#8217;s<\/a>. But, it&#8217;s up to the distributor to decide if they will include color matched backstraps kits with their pistols, and whether they will offer colored backstrap kits as accessories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These three kits are available <em>now<\/em> as accessories and can be ordered by Glock dealers for $16 using the following part numbers.
