AFP PHOTO \/ CARL COURT<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Navy officials called the actions of the Russian aircraft \u201cirresponsible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe expect them to behave within international standards set to ensure safety and to prevent incidents, including the 1972 Agreement for the Prevention of Incidents On and Over the High Seas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">U.S. 6th Fleet officials said the P-8A Poseidon was operating \u201cconsistent with international law and did not provoke this Russian activity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cUnsafe actions\u200e increase the risk of miscalculation and potential for midair collisions,\u201d officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident Wednesday was the second in which U.S. personnel were harassed in \u201cunsafe\u201d and \u201cunprofessional\u201d actions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/flashpoints\/2020\/04\/15\/11-islamic-revolutionary-guard-corps-vessels-harass-us-warships-in-the-persian-gulf\/\" target=_blank>According to U.S. Naval Forces Central Command<\/a>, 11 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vessels harassed six U.S. warships operating in the north Persian Gulf. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The IRGC vessels \u201crepeatedly conducted dangerous and harassing approaches\u201d of several U.S. warships as American vessels conducted air integration exercises, U.S. Navy Forces Central Command said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Arleigh Burke-class destroyer Paul Hamilton, the expeditionary mobile base vessel Lewis B.
