Some expert tips you may not know, or that you may have forgotten since the last time around:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>1. Keep up. <\/b>Finally finished with that big remodeling project? Ready to enjoy the fruits of your (or your contractor\u2019s) labor and never speak of the process again? Slow down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jgwentworth.com\/lp\/hl\/militarytimesLP.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arc-anglerfish-arc2-prod-mco.s3.amazonaws.com\/public\/5RJH47MLUJCIJA74ZETALIKTD4.jpg\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" \/><\/a>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remodeling means a more valuable property, and that means it could be time to update your insurance. Be sure you\u2019re covered for replacement value of your new-look digs, not just market value of the classic mode. That also goes for if you\u2019ve bought new, high-value appliances or other items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>2. Check your deductible.<\/b> Rates can fall significantly if you up the deductible, which could result in savings over the long term. That said, don\u2019t jump on lower rates if you don\u2019t have enough cash to cover the increased cost, should disaster strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>3. Landlord life. <\/b>If you plan to rent out your home after you move to your next duty station, be sure your insurance company knows you\u2019ll be taking in tenants. You\u2019ll need to maintain coverage, and your insurance company may not offer landlord policies &#8230; or, at least, not one in your price range. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>4. Flood facts. <\/b>If you\u2019re in a federally designated high-risk flood area and your mortgage is from a federally insured lender, you\u2019re required to have flood insurance. That doesn\u2019t apply to all homeowners in those areas, nor to those in areas with moderate, but still present, risk of high water. Unsure where you stand? This <a href=\"https:\/\/msc.fema.gov\/portal\" data-original-title=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"selected-link\">Federal Emergency Management Agency website<\/a> may help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>5. Note for renters. <\/b>Younger service members may not realize that their landlord\u2019s insurance doesn\u2019t cover a renter\u2019s property in the event of a disaster.
