The outage is also affecting the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration\u2019s Disaster Distress Helpline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">988, the Suicide &amp; Crisis Lifeline number, is down. Veterans can dial 877-267-6030 or call any VA facility and press 7 to reach the Veterans Crisis Line: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IOHyxBZmU2\">https:\/\/t.co\/IOHyxBZmU2<\/a><br><br>The Veterans Crisis Line chat (<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xAFvsBM5Fe\">https:\/\/t.co\/xAFvsBM5Fe<\/a>) and text (838255) are also available. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/YeBnfJPStr\">pic.twitter.com\/YeBnfJPStr<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Veterans Health (@VeteransHealth) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/VeteransHealth\/status\/1598369858177142793?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 1, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Health and Human Services, which oversaw the launch of the three-digit lifeline earlier this year, is in communication with the contractor that supports the line, HHS spokeswoman Sarah Lovenheim said in a tweet Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve taken immediate action to ensure alternative 988 channels are available to the public,\u201d Lovenheim tweeted. The outage had been ongoing for several hours Thursday, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 988 helpline, launched in July, is a national helpline staffed with mental health counselors around the country that\u2019s designed to be as easy to remember as the emergency line, 911.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Intrado, the telecommunications provider for the service, could not immediately be reached for comment. In a statement on its website, the company said it is \u201cexperiencing an incident that is impacting production across numerous systems\u201d and is \u201cworking diligently to restore
