Defense Department leadership is aware of press reports <\/a>that Russian missiles targeting Ukrainian energy facilities crossed into Poland on Tuesday, killing two, but is not ready to confirm any details, according to a spokesman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unconfirmed strike hit Przewod\u00f3w, a Polish village on the Ukraine border, the Associated Press reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI can tell you that we don\u2019t have any information at this time to corroborate those reports and are looking into this further,\u201d Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder, a Pentagon spokesman, said Tuesday during a briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ryder declined to speculate \u2014 ahead of confirmation of the nature of the strike \u2014 whether it would require a military response. More than 6,500 U.S. troops<\/a> are stationed in Poland and have been since earlier this year, in response to Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen it comes to our security commitments, and [NATO] Article 5<\/a>, we\u2019ve been crystal clear that we will defend every inch of NATO territory,\u201d Ryder said, echoing comments President Joe Biden made earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
