Rather, the delay is one of several announced by Republican lawmakers because of missing background checks from FBI officials. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCongressman Doug Collins has submitted all his paperwork in a timely manner and has been transparent and forthcoming with the committee,\u201d said Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., the committee chairman. \u201cAt this time, the FBI has not completed its customary background check of Congressman Collins. In accordance with long-standing practice, the committee should have an opportunity to review Congressman Collins\u2019 FBI file before the confirmation hearing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6367036130112\" target=\"_blank\">Fox News reported <\/a>that two other confirmation hearings \u2014 Tulsi Gabbard, President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s pick for director of national intelligence, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump\u2019s pick for Health and Human Services Secretary \u2014 will not be scheduled until that same paperwork is provided to lawmakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Collins had been scheduled to answer questions from senators on Tuesday morning, the first of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2025\/01\/13\/blitz-of-confirmation-hearings-includes-va-dod-secretary-picks\/\" target=\"_blank\"> 15 confirmation hearings scheduled before Senate panels<\/a> this week alone. Collins\u2019 predecessor, current VA Secretary Denis McDonough, was not confirmed by the Senate until three weeks after President Joe Biden\u2019s inauguration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said that all of the proper security checks must be completed before any nominees are brought up for confirmation votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese nominees will have enormous power,\u201d Schumer said. \u201cEvery American has to go through some background check and be asked questions when they\u2019re applying for a job.
