Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville recently asserted on a conservative political talk show that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not actually interested in his country invading its neighbor Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuberville, who sits on the Senate Committee on Armed Services, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is a \u201cdictator\u201d and argued that Putin \u201cdoesn\u2019t want Ukraine\u201d during a recent discussion on commentator Steve Bannon\u2019s show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe doesn\u2019t want Ukraine. He doesn\u2019t want Europe. He\u2019s got enough land of his own,\u201d Tuberville said.<\/a> \u201cHe just wants to make sure that he does not have United States weapons in Ukraine pointing at Moscow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Ukraine has used American weapons to strike inside Russia<\/a> in recent days, according to The Associated Press, which cited a U.S. senator and a Western official, Tuberville\u2019s comments come in stark contrast to what Ukraine and its allies, including the U.S., have repeatedly articulated for years \u2014 that Russia\u2019s invasion in early 2022 and its continued aggression in Ukraine\u2019s sovereign territory are at fault for the ongoing conflict<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
