Munk Munkhzaya returned home in a U.S. Army uniform to support <a href=\"https:\/\/www.army.mil\/article\/293760\/khaan_quest_26_ends_with_closing_ceremony_in_mongolia#:~:text=Since%202003%2C%20Khaan%20Quest%20has,throughout%20the%20Indo%2DPacific%20region.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">Exercise Khaan Quest 2026<\/a> as a translator and cultural liaison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Munkhzaya, a finance technician assigned to the 125th Finance Battalion, 8th Theater Sustainment Command, returned to Mongolia for the multinational exercise hosted by the Mongolian Armed Forces and co-sponsored by U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exercise brings together military personnel from 18 nations to improve United Nations peacekeeping training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cKhaan Quest gives service members from multiple nations the opportunity to meet each other, share cultures and build relationships,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/news\/569376\/home-again-mongolian-born-soldier-returns-us-army-uniform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">Munkhzaya said in a release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because of his fluency in both English and Mongolian, Munkhzaya was selected to support the exercise by helping bridge communication gaps between forces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI explain why the U.S. Army does things a certain way, and I also explain the Mongolian perspective,\u201d Munkhzaya said. \u201cIt helps connect both forces.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"3506\" height=\"2342\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/9792072.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-111607\" srcset=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/9792072.jpg.jpg 3506w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/9792072.jpg.jpg?resize=300,200 300w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/9792072.jpg.jpg?resize=768,513 768w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/9792072.jpg.jpg?resize=1024,684 1024w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/9792072.jpg.jpg?resize=1536,1026 1536w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/9792072.jpg.jpg?resize=2048,1368 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 3506px) 100vw, 3506px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sgt. Alexcia Rupert\/Army)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While participating in the event, Munkhzaya reenlisted in the U.S. Army during a ceremony held inside a traditional Mongolian ger, or yurt, at Five Hills Training Area, on July 2, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The people in Mongolia welcomed Munkhzaya back home in a U.S. uniform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey thanked me for sharing the Mongolian side with the U.S. Army, and that made me feel comfortable coming back this year,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/news\/569376\/home-again-mongolian-born-soldier-returns-us-army-uniform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">Munkhzaya added<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Munkhzaya said he grew up wanting to study in the United States. After graduating from high school in Ulaanbaatar, he moved to California alone, where he earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in economics with a minor in business from California State University, Sacramento. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although he had opportunities for a civilian career, Munkhzaya wanted a different path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI joined the Army because I wanted the military lifestyle,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/news\/569376\/home-again-mongolian-born-soldier-returns-us-army-uniform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">Munkhzaya said<\/a>. \u201cI wanted more discipline.
