As modern warfare expands into new domains, space plays a critical role in offensive, defensive and communications capabilities. Critical infrastructure relies on space, as satellites provide key components of what joint forces need to carry out their missions. It will also be a contested environment in future conflicts, as adversaries will attempt to deny critical communications, as well as using offensive capabilities to target forces in the field. Ensuring a robust space infrastructure and operations will be key to the U.S. military’s ability to maintain information dominance and conduct offensive and defensive operations involving space.
