The CD also contains video of DoD CIO Dana Deasy\u2019s confirmation hearing last month, in which he was asked by a senator if Trump had influenced the contract award. Deasy didn\u2019t directly deny it. The disc additionally contains video of a Fox News segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amazon has a clear belief that the president\u2019s statements influenced the award. Two weeks ago, Federal Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/it-networks\/cloud\/2019\/11\/14\/amazon-will-protest-pentagons-jedi-to-dod\/\" target=_blank>obtained a video <\/a>of AW CEO Andy Jassy announcing that his company would protest the JEDI award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think when you have a sitting president who\u2019s willing to publicly show his disdain for a company and the leader of a company, it\u2019s very difficult for government agencies, including the DoD, to make an objective decision without fear of reprisal,&#8221; Jassy said in the video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Secretary of Defense Mark Esper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/it-networks\/cloud\/2019\/10\/22\/secretary-of-defense-recuses-himself-from-troubled-pentagon-contract\/\" target=_blank>recused himself from the contract<\/a> just days before it was awarded, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/it-networks\/cloud\/2019\/08\/02\/does-dods-big-money-cloud-contract-really-need-a-new-new-review\/\" target=_blank>he reviewed the contract himself<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jassy also said that AWS\u2019 cloud capability greatly outpaces Microsoft, adding that &#8220;most of our customers will tell us that we\u2019re about 24 months ahead of Microsoft in functionality and maturity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/federaltimes\/govcon\/contracting\/2019\/10\/30\/so-what-problems-does-jedi-solve-really\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Cloud-Computing.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">So what problems does JEDI solve, really?<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Industry leaders say that the DoD&#039;s enterprise cloud will allow the warfighter to access data quicker, consolidate data and develop artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paired with Trump\u2019s statements and Deasy\u2019s testimony, it appears Amazon\u2019s legal argument is that Trump\u2019s public statements against Amazon, as well as Deasy\u2019s non-denial of Trump directing top DoD officials not to award the contract to Amazon, led to an unfair decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s what\u2019s on the disc:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Feb. 26, 2016 &#8211; Trump rally in Fort Worth, Texas. <\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a winding speech at a campaign rally before the 2016, Trump directed attacks on media outlets such as the New York Times and Washington Post, bashing them for coverage he deemed unfair. Trump brought those attacks around to focus on Bezos and saying that Amazon would \u201chave problems\u201d if he were elected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe bought the Washington Post to have political influence and I got to tell you, we have a different country than we used to have. He owns Amazon. He wants political influence so that Amazon will benefit from it. That\u2019s not right,\u201d Trump said. \u201cAnd believe me, if I become president, oh, do they have problems. They\u2019re going to have such problems.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>July 18, 2019 &#8211; Oval Office remarks with Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During a Q&amp;A session with the press while hosting Dutch PM Mark Rutte, the president was asked if he was going to intervene in the contract. Trump said he was getting \u201ctremendous complaints\u201d about the contract from \u201csome of the greatest companies in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI will be asking them to look at it very closely to see what\u2019s going on because I have had very few things where there\u2019s been such complaining,\u201d Trump said. &#8220;Not only complaining from the media \u2014 or at least asking questions about it from the media \u2014 but complaining from different companies like Microsoft and Oracle and IBM. Great companies are complaining about it. So we\u2019re going to take a look at it. We\u2019ll take a very strong look at it. Angus King, I-Maine, asked Deasy to \u201ccategorically assure\u201d the committee that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/it-networks\/cloud\/2019\/10\/29\/how-the-pentagon-still-struggles-to-explain-its-massive-cloud-contract\/\" target=_blank>president didn\u2019t influence the final decision<\/a>. Deasy answered carefully, telling King that the team members on the source selection team were anonymous and cordoned off from any pressure. But he didn\u2019t say that Trump or the White House hadn\u2019t tried to direct top DoD officials to not award the contract to Amazon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI feel very confident that at no time were team members, that actually [made] the source selection, influenced with any external [pressures], including the White House,\u201d Deasy said before the Senate Armed Services Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And don\u2019t forget, there is still a<a
