A lot of people are going to suffer and die,\u201d Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said during a July 13 event at the Hudson Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But researchers from Dragos cast doubt on the notion attacks on the electric grid could be widespread. The firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitydive.com\/news\/how-vulnerable-is-the-grid-to-cyberattacks-really\/528606\/\" target=_blank>conducts research<\/a> into electric grid vulnerabilities and tracks cyber-threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any hack will likely focus on \u201c&#8217;localized short-term effects,\u201d Sergio Caltagirone, director of threat intelligence at Dragos told Fifth Domain. He emphasized that discussions of attacks on \u201cthe grid\u201d are far fetched because they are technically complicated to accomplish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An attack on one small target could have the same impact as a large attack, Caltagirone said, because its sows distrust and fear. Caltagirone was clear on the type of hacks that are most likely to continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLocalized. Short-term.
