The senators added that if Trump has been using the vulnerable devices to communicate, \u201cit represents a grave danger to U.S. national security.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are especially concerned about recent reporting that President Trump has eschewed the advice of counterintelligence experts and opted to use unsecured commercial devices,\u201d Senators Martin Heinrich D-NM., Richard Durbin D-Ill., Ron Wyden D-Ore., and Dianne Feinstein D-Calif., said in the letter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On May 21, the news website POLITICO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2018\/05\/21\/trump-phone-security-risk-hackers-601903\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">reported <\/a>that Trump uses a cellphone without \u201csophisticated security features designed to shield his communications,\u201d citing two senior administration officials. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Homeland Security has found signs of digital surveillance equipment near the White House and at other sensitives sites in Washington, D.C., the agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyden.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/Krebs%20letter%20to%20Wyden%20after%20May%20meeting.pdf\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">wrote <\/a>in a May 22 letter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use of cellphones and other electronic equipment is tightly regulated for employees in many areas of the U.S. government. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGovernment officials with access to classified information must abide by strict security protocols that limit when, how, and in what manner they communicate with others,\u201d the senators wrote. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump\u2019s alleged unsecured cellphone use would be a departure from the previous administration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For years, former President Barack Obama said he used a modified Blackberry device. For security reasons, Obama <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uNyd34TPXUg\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">said <\/a>the phone did not have a recorder in it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2016, Obama <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aMcKi1TS2Zs\" target=\"\">told <\/a>late-night host Jimmy Fallon that he finally received a new smartphone. But for security reasons, government officials told Obama that \u201cit doesn\u2019t take pictures, you can\u2019t text \u2026 you can\u2019t play your music on it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Obama compared the new device to a play phone that a three-year-old would use as a toy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat\u2019s basically the phone
