And it must be operationally ready as early as next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2018\/03\/21\/hive-like-drone-pack-could-resupply-far-flung-marines-with-a-push-of-a-button\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"148\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/hive.png.png?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Hive-like \u2018drone pack\u2019 could resupply far-flung Marines with a push of a button<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The system could deliver tiny amounts of gear in waves, from batteries, to first aid, to ammunition or food.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Researchers want multiple deliveries, so they also expect the recovery and turnaround time to be short. And operators should be able to retrieve the drone either autonomously or manually from near where it was launched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some portions of the RFI sounded such as work being done by the Navy-Marine Corps program Next Generation Logistics, or NexLog. The program looks for logistics innovations and held a public event in March at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, to showcase an automated drone project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project, called \u201cHive Final Mile,\u201d was launched in part by Marine Corps Reserve Maj. researchers and engineers with NexLog, uses algorithms to allow for a hive base of drones to carry items such as MREs, water bottles and small medical equipment on demand to Marines in the field, who have the ability to order items with the push of a button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The system can also be set to continuously deliver items, for example creating a pile of MREs at a remote base over an hour or so with multiple drones streaming to the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main hub can identify what\u2019s available in nearby hives and resupply the chain as it delivers, and certain supply stocks dwindle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The major estimated that the system could scale up to \u201cthousands\u201d of drones operating in less than two years of further research and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Jamie Cosgrove, spokeswoman for the Naval Air Systems Command, said that the current RFI is for existing commercial options to deliver items in the 25- to 500-pound range and is not part of the NexLog program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
