Michael in an Air Force news release. \u201cWe are all trained and expected to demonstrate proficiency at all times. There\u2019s no difference between \u2018us and them.\u2019 We are pilots, plain and simple.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Michael, the 380th Expeditionary Operations Group Detachment 1 operations superintendent and pilot, said the Sept. 13 operation highlighted enlisted airmen\u2019s competence piloting the unarmed reconnaissance drone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt shows that with high level training, rank does not matter, only ability,\u201d Michael said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not typical for all-enlisted crew to occur within Detachment 1, although it has happened before, the Air Force said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Air Force first announced in December 2015 that it would open up flying the RQ-4 Global Hawk to enlisted airmen. The policy change designated the first time enlisted airmen could pilot aircraft <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-air-force\/2015\/12\/17\/air-force-to-have-enlisted-pilots-for-first-time-since-world-war-ii\/\" target=_blank>since World War II<\/a>, when the service was still part of the Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In May 2017, the first three enlisted airmen graduated from undergraduate RPA training at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph Air Force Base in Texas. By 2020, the service says it is aiming to have a total of 100 enlisted RPA pilots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Air Force, it was \u201conly a matter of time\u201d that an all-enlisted crew of RPA professionals would conduct operations in theater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis demonstrates the capabilities and leadership of the enlisted
