The Army\u2019s push in recent months to adopt cloud technologies is driven by a need to provide data to decision makers around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leaders who spoke Feb. 10 during the service\u2019s cloud and data colloquium in McLean, Virginia, explained that the Pentagon\u2019s National Defense Strategy is one of the leading forces toward modernizing its IT practices. This involves moving more applications to the cloud and developing a data strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe truly believe [data] is the ammunition of the future fight. You can argue that when you look at the National Defense Strategy it\u2019s the currency that we\u2019re going to need to fight and win in this era of great power competition,\u201d said Lt. Gen. Bruce Crawford, the Army\u2019s chief information officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One way to put that strategy into practice, Crawford said, is to work more closely with other services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pentagon has created a new cross functional team for what\u2019s known as Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2). That effort aims to encourage the services to develop systems that can communicate with each other and are interoperable. <\/p>\n\n\n\t
