WASHINGTON \u2015 Raytheon and Virsec announced an alliance Monday to sell Virsec\u2019s commercial cybersecurity products to government and critical infrastructure customers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raytheon will push Virsec\u2019s Trusted Execution technology, which detects deviations in application software caused by cyber intrusions, specifically in the critical infrastructure sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCritical infrastructure \u2015 from the electrical grid to transportation \u2015 is under assault, and hackers are evading conventional security defenses,\u201d said John DeSimone, vice president of cybersecurity and special missions at Raytheon\u2019s intelligence, information and services unit. \u201cCommercial tools from companies like Virsec can help bridge the gap for our global government and commercial customers and provide effective protection against the growing cyber threat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By detecting software intrusions at the application level, Trusted Execution is able to block attacks in milliseconds, according to a Raytheon news release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tom Goodman, Raytheon\u2019s director of international cyber business, told Defense News that his company \u201crecognizes the fact that cybersecurity isn\u2019t an IT problem, but an operational problem.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When looking for companies to partner with to address these large scale threats, Raytheon was attracted to Virsec because \u201ctheir capability not only looks at some of the most advanced types of threat vectors coming from different bad actors, but they also have an eye to address them from an operational perspective,\u201d Goodman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So to whom is Raytheon looking to sell Virsec\u2019s software?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Goodman declined to go into specifics, but did note Raytheon was scheduling to meet with a \u201cnational-level energy company\u201d in the Middle East, several regional telecommunication companies in the Middle East and Europe, and one particular ministry of defense in the Asia-Pacific region concerned with China\u2019s growing cyberthreat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
