A score of one designates basic hygiene and a five represents advanced hygiene.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/cyber\/2020\/01\/31\/pentagon-finalizes-first-set-of-cyber-standards-for-contractors\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/lord_pentagon.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Pentagon finalizes first set of cyber standards for contractors<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Pentagon has finalized the long anticipated cybersecurity standards contractors will have to follow before winning contracts from the Department of Defense, a new process called the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) 1.0.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, there are no auditors \u2014 known as Certified Third-Party Assessment Organizations (C3PAO) \u2014 as the accreditation board came about officially in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur goal is to have, in late April, our pilot pathfinder on the training for the C3PAOs,\u201d Katie Arrington, chief information security officer for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, said at an event hosted by DreamPort in Columbia, Maryland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The accreditation board is working on training the auditors and the accompanying training materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arrington said just because there aren\u2019t any auditors already working doesn\u2019t mean companies shouldn\u2019t be getting ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou\u2019ve got to get prepared for the audit,\u201d she said. \u201cYou should be able to say \u2018I think I\u2019ve done my self assessment, I think I\u2019m at this CMMC level.\u2019 Waiting for the audit to come in and then decide to get good or to get on track is not the way I would position my business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> If all goes according to plan, all new contracts in 2025 will feature the security requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arrington also suggested that the framework has received interest outside the DoD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDo I think that other federal agencies are getting on board? Yes they are. They\u2019re waiting for me to get through my pathfinder,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She also referred to comments made by Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Ellen Lord, who explained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fifthdomain.com\/show-reporter\/afcea-west\/2020\/03\/03\/international-partners-want-in-on-pentagons-cybersecurity-standards\/\"
