Pentagon memo&#8217;s &#8216;Star Wars&#8217; references disappear"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">References to \u201cStar Wars\u201d \u2015 the movie, not the missile defense system \u2015 apparently are not embraced by the Pentagon brass when it comes to official memos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s what Deputy Defense Secretary Pay Shanahan found out earlier this month. In a Jan. 4 memo, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-01-10\/-star-wars-dazzle-stripped-from-a-pentagon-memo-on-the-cloud\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Bloomberg reports<\/a> that Shanahan was perhaps a little more creative in describing some of the program\u2019s features than what the bureaucracy is used to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shanahan\u2019s memo announced a new \u201cCentral Cloud Computing Program Office\u201d (C3PO) to \u201cacquire the Joint Enterprise Defense Intrastructure (JEDI) Cloud.\u201d He goes on to note that \u201cC3PO is authorized to obligate funds as necessary in support of the JEDI Cloud,\u201d according to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fifthdomain.com\/dod\/2018\/01\/02\/among-pentagons-new-years-resolutions-more-cyber\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Among Pentagon&#8217;s New Year&#8217;s resolutions: more cyber<\/a>]<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The memo was recinded about an hour after its release. A new memo made public later renamed C3PO as the \u201cCloud Computing Program Manager\u201d and deleted references to the JEDI Cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What happened to the \u201cStar Wars\u201d references?
