{"id":14499,"date":"2017-06-29T12:07:03","date_gmt":"2017-06-29T12:07:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/uncategorized\/2017\/06\/29\/german-firm-hensoldt-acquires-uk-radar-maker\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T21:53:20","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T21:53:20","slug":"german-firm-hensoldt-acquires-uk-radar-maker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/global\/2017\/06\/29\/german-firm-hensoldt-acquires-uk-radar-maker\/","title":{"rendered":"German firm Hensoldt acquires UK radar maker"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LONDON \u2014 British radar and security company Kelvin Hughes has been purchased by Hensoldt, the German sensor producer announced June 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The terms of the deal have not been made public, but Hensoldt said subject to regulatory approval it hoped to close the takeover by the end of September. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kelvin Hughes is currently owned by British private equity firm ECI and the company management.  <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company has an annual turnover of more than \u20ac30 million (U.S. $34 million) and employs approximately 200 people, most of them based at a site in London. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s the second acquisition by Hensoldt since Airbus spun off its defense electronic and optronics businesses into the newly formed company in March 2017. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last month, the company acquired the small German civil avionics producer EuroAvionics. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kelvin Hughes is best known for it&#8217;s maritime radar work. It&#8217;s products are used by more than 30 navies and coast guards. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement announcing the acquisition, Hensoldt CEO Thomas M\u00fcller said: &#8220;Kelvin Hughes is highly successful in the marine and security markets, while Hedsoldt has a strong position in the higher-end military and surveillance radar domain. <br\/> <br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Our portfolios and market access are perfectly complementary, and we will see significant growth from this transaction. The Kelvin Hughes portfolio will allow us to enter more price-sensitive markets, and their security solutions will add value to the Hensoldt products and bring us one step closer towards our strategic
