Ken Kunze, a Marine spokesman told Marine Corps Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Corps provided no other details about its request for information related to the long range unmanned vessel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But, the Corps has been expressing a lot of interest as of late regarding unmanned surface vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2019\/08\/21\/the-corps-is-looking-at-unmanned-ships-for-a-pacific-fight\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Boat-drone.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">The Corps is looking at unmanned ships for a Pacific fight<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Lt. Gen. Eric Smith said the Corps was testing unmanned 11-meter rigid-hull inflatable boats.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July the Corps tested an unmanned boat built by Textron Systems known as the Common Unmanned Surface Vehicle at the Advanced Naval Technology Exercise held aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, according to Wayne Prender, the senior vice president for applied technology and advanced programs for Textron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Textron\u2019s unmanned vessel has a range of 10 nautical miles to 20 nautical miles and a 24-hour endurance depending on the payload, Prender told Marine Corps Times at the 2019 Modern Day Marine expo in Quantico, Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prender believes Textron\u2019s unmanned ship is \u201cwell suited\u201d for the Corps\u2019 long-range unmanned surface vessel program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the experimental exercise at Camp Lejeune, Prender said that the Textron vessel conducted a high value vessel protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ship\u2019s mission, Prender said, \u201cwas to keep itself between a high valued asset and potential enemy or threat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The system\u2019s sensors were able to identify threats and position the ship between itself and the asset and protect it, Prender explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The unmanned boat is also an open system, Prender said.
