{"id":17693,"date":"2017-01-20T14:39:59","date_gmt":"2017-01-20T14:39:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/uncategorized\/2017\/01\/20\/preliminary-results-indicate-hack-the-army-was-a-success\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T18:09:45","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T18:09:45","slug":"preliminary-results-indicate-hack-the-army-was-a-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/cyber\/2017\/01\/20\/preliminary-results-indicate-hack-the-army-was-a-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Preliminary results indicate Hack the Army was a success"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the main firms associated with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/articles\/army-announces-its-own-hack-the-pentagon\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Link: http:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/articles\/army-announces-its-own-hack-the-pentagon\">Hack the Army<\/a> effort released the results of the service&#8217;s first bug bounty program. <br\/><br\/> In a <a href=\"https:\/\/hackerone.com\/blog\/Hack-The-Army-Results-Are-In\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Link: https:\/\/hackerone.com\/blog\/Hack-The-Army-Results-Are-In\">blog post<\/a> published Jan. 19, HackerOne said from Nov. 30 to Dec. 21:<br\/><br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>371 eligible participants registered.<\/li><li>416 total reports were received.<\/li><li>118 total valid reports were received<\/li><li>It took five minutes to receive the first vulnerability report.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HackerOne touted the preliminary results posted on their website as a success. Twenty-five of the 371 eligible and invited were government employees including 17 military personnel\u00a0\u2014\u00a0a difference in the original Hack the Pentagon initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An estimated $100,000 in bounties was paid to hackers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HackerOne said the most significant vulnerability discovered was a series of chained vulnerabilities in which a researcher could move from the public-facing goarmy.com to an internal Department of Defense website requiring special credentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HackerOne also promised more to come from this effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like the Defense Digital Service\u00a0\u2014\u00a0a Silicon Valley-modeled node within the Pentagon focused on difficult problems, such as Hack the Pentagon\u00a0\u2014\u00a0the Army and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/articles\/air-force-creates-new-group-to-recuit-cyber-nerds-for-weapons-programs\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Link: http:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/articles\/air-force-creates-new-group-to-recuit-cyber-nerds-for-weapons-programs\">Air Force<\/a>have stood up their own
