But Army leaders have said they plan to scale this architecture to a brigade unit and could start fielding the tools in formations, and not just test units, in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/c2-comms\/2018\/09\/21\/army-makes-strides-toward-network-modernization-with-much-anticipated-radio-award\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/4602303.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Army makes strides toward network modernization with much anticipated radio award<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Army has issued an award for its 2-channel leader radio.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe first kind of goal post &#8230; over the next 12-18 months is defining what this integrated tactical network capability set should look like in the various formations and then begin fielding. We want to start fielding units, like first units equipped on a conveyor belt, starting in \u201920,\u201d Maj. Gen. Peter Gallagher, director of the Network Cross Functional Team told reporters Oct. 9 at the AUSA annual meeting. \u201cWe will adjust, as [Maj.] Gen. [David] Bassett, said based on the configuration of the unit and we will learn as we go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bassett, program executive officer for Command, Control, Communications-Tactical, told reporters that ITN, the new network design, roll out has started with the infantry brigades, Stryker brigades and armored brigades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Working through the network cross functional team, the Army has been using experimentation to figure out exactly what this network design will look like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the conclusions is that not every formation in every region will have the same configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe key is treating the network as an ecosystem and not just a box and a set of limited waveforms but really taking a look at what\u2019s in the art of the possible for cross connecting, cross banding, going through either translation tools or gateways,\u201d Gallagher said. \u201cWe don\u2019t want that network to be the same network at every stage. We want to evolve the network, tailor to it to each of those formations and take advantage of technology as it becomes available.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Army
