The Navy\u2019s chief information officer continued a direct and unsparing critique of the service\u2019s networks at one of the largest IT conferences for government contractors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aaron Weis, who became the Navy\u2019s CIO in September, said during a March 2 keynote luncheon at the West 2020 conference that the service\u2019s networks were overly complex and, therefore, difficult to defend. \u201cI would argue our networks are holding us back,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weis said when he explained the Navy\u2019s email setup to Satya Nadella, the Microsoft chief executive was \u201cflabbergasted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And on the topic of cybersecurity, he said \u201cthe Department of Navy is losing our information every day to our adversaries. We\u2019re leaking our information out whether it\u2019s from direct exfiltration or through the defense industrial base.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t
