{"id":20001,"date":"2020-09-17T00:01:15","date_gmt":"2020-09-17T00:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/uncategorized\/2020\/09\/17\/us-army-wants-to-upgrade-some-aging-radios\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T18:05:14","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T18:05:14","slug":"us-army-wants-to-upgrade-some-aging-radios","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/battlefield-tech\/c2-comms-battlefield-tech\/2020\/09\/17\/us-army-wants-to-upgrade-some-aging-radios\/","title":{"rendered":"US Army wants to upgrade some aging radios"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2014 The U.S. Army is looking to industry to help develop a new requirement to modernize an aging fleet of radios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a request for information posted earlier this month by Army Program Executive Office Command, Control, Communications-Tactical, the service announced it is weighing a new radio solution or tech upgrades for its Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS) as part of the service\u2019s Combat Net Radio (CNR) market research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The service wants to learn more about industry\u2019s capabilities in upgrading the SINCGARS radio to include new frequency hopping capabilities and cryptographic modernization, an effort that includes Tactical Secure Voice Cryptographic Interoperability Specification (TSVCIS) and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256. According to the request, the radio solutions are needed for the service\u2019s single and dual mounted vehicle radios, and personal radio manpack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The effort is led by PEO C3T\u2019s Project Manager Tactical Radio and Product Manger Waveforms. The Army is developing new, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/battlefield-tech\/c2-comms\/2020\/08\/14\/silvus-technologies-develops-toughened-waveform-for-us-army\/\" target=_blank>more resilient waveforms<\/a> with industry as it prepares for future battles with near-peer adversaries. The Army plans to use SINCGARS radios to support fires and air defense in contested environments where data capabilities are limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe market research effort will, in part, help inform how the Army will prioritize resourcing for potential acquisition efforts and help define requirements,\u201d said Paul Mehney, director of communications for PEO C3T. \u201cCNR solutions under consideration may include Single Purpose\/Single Band or Single Purpose\/Multiband (software defined) radio technologies. As SINCGARS modernization requirements are defined and acquisition strategies are put in place, the program office anticipates solicitation release in late 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The RFI states that Army wants to complete the modernization goal \u201con or before\u201d fiscal 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Responses are due Sept.
