However, recently discussions have centered around what is accurately called a game-chang<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">e\u2019<\/span>ing level event: <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">and that is <\/span>a death related to a cyberattack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About three months ago a survey titled, &#8220;Holding the Line Against Cyber Threats: Critical Infrastructure Readiness Survey,&#8221; shared some eye-popping results<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">\u00a0results<\/span><span class=\"rte rte-comment\"> were compiled and released<\/span>.\u00a0The<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">at<\/span> survey <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">was <\/span>of 625 information technology executives from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">. That study resulted in an eye-opening result.\u00a0It<\/span> found that 48 percent <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">of those participating in the poll actually<\/span> think that a cyberattack is likely to take down components of our critical infrastructure and<span class=\"rte rte-comment\"> that will<\/span> lead to potential loss of life<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">.\u00a0The time horizon for that startling revelation is<\/span> within the next three years.\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">When thinking about that, you must keep in mind there are a few incidents possibly related to or caused by a <\/span><span class=\"gr-progress notes\">cyberattack<\/span><span class=\"rte rte-comment\"> that have resulted in the loss of life.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is an increasing concern and <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">an increasing <\/span>point of discussion.\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">It\u2019s interest has e<\/span>Even <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">risen to the point where <\/span>&#8220;CSI: Cyber&#8221; season 2 episode <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">number <\/span>5 is about hackers attacking the information infrastructure impacting a hospital and putting patients\u2019 lives at risk.\u00a0<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">Remember, <\/span>In real life, the infrastructure of a hospital in Georgia received a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carecloud.com\/hospital-turns-away-patients-when-virus-attacks-network\/\" target=\"_blank\">severely disruptive malware back in 2011<\/a><span class=\"rte rte-comment\"> (link: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carecloud.com\/hospital-turns-away-patients-when-virus-attacks-network\/\">http:\/\/www.carecloud.com\/hospital-turns-away-patients-when-virus-attacks-network\/<\/a>)<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are those that believe <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">there are <\/span>multiple incidents that resulted in a loss of life were <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">that have occurred where the loss of life was <\/span>the direct result of <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">a <\/span>cyberattacks. What would the response be from our government leaders?\u00a0They would have to weigh the social and economic impact of their acknowledgement that this took place.\u00a0They would also have to think through how they would handle the public\u2019s outrage and demand for immediate retaliatory action.\u00a0This is a hugely complex issue and one can only hope that our military, intelligence community and this administration has put forth the effort to consider such an event and how best to respond.\u00a0Every<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">VERY<\/span> critical infrastructure provider and <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">those <\/span>related organizations<span class=\"rte rte-comment\"> related to or providing<\/span>\u00a0that support <span class=\"rte rte-comment\">to <\/span>the nation\u2019s critical infrastructure should also think through this issue that is growing and more likely to occur each and every day.<span class=\"rte rte-comment\">\u00a0It is truly a game
