This can include securing critical infrastructure such as power plants, water treatment plants or major ports.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/show-reporter\/dodiis\/2018\/08\/16\/for-help-with-election-hacking-states-call-the-national-guard\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/AP_18117708575254.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">For help with election hacking, states call the National Guard<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">States&#039; governors have recently asked the National Guard to help out with election security events.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new plan, known as a concept of operation, describes a framework for how information flows from the federal government \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/fcw.com\/articles\/2018\/11\/15\/dhs-dod-cyber-cooperation.aspx\" target=_blank>Department of Homeland Security and Cyber Command<\/a> \u2014 to the states to help government officials improve their cybersecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The plan is still in draft form, Lt. Col. Jody Ogle, director of communications for cyber programs at the West Virginia National Guard, told reporters Jan. 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat concept of operation helps shape that framework for how that information can flow up and down\u201d the government, Ogle said. For example, if an IT technician working for a secretary of state notices something out of the ordinary on the network, that can be passed up to higher levels of the government and included with other threat signals across sensors on the network making that initial small tidbit of information more actionable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ogle said he helped write the concept during a recent stint at U.S. Cyber Command\u2019s Joint Force Headquarters-DoD Information Networks, which is tasked with defending DoD\u2019s network.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link
