As such, the Air Force will take a development operations, rapid prototyping approach to Unified Platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of following the traditional approach that involves established requirements that are competed and companies are selected, by using the rapid process \u201cwe\u2019re able to do it actively where you have the operator sitting right next to the developer to do this in a much more agile manner, which is critically important in a cyberspace programming,\u201d Brig. Gen. David Gaedecke, director of cyberspace operations and warfighting integration within the Air Force\u2019s CIO office, said Sept. 17 during a panel at the annual Air, Space and Cyber conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to be able to do that where we can do one month sprints, work that into six month increments and then 18 month epochs as we continue down that path.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fifthdomain.com\/dod\/cybercom\/2018\/06\/29\/cyber-command-moves-closer-to-a-major-new-weapon\/\" target=_blank>Fifth Domain previously reported<\/a>, a formal request for proposals for Unified Platform was released through the General Services Administration\u2019s premier enterprise Alliant Governmentwide Acquisition Contract vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/cyber\/2018\/06\/29\/cyber-command-moves-closer-to-a-major-new-weapon\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/4259933.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Cyber Command moves closer to a major new weapon<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">A proposal for the next generation cyber operations platform went out to industry recently, however, details are scarce.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under this model, GSA completes much of the initial contracting legwork and, in this case, allows the Air Force to focus on the specific technical requirements, sources said. Companies compete to be eligible for task orders under the Alliant contract and then GSA selects contractors who compete against each other for individual task orders on the final program. The Army, for example, recently selected four companies to help <a
