{"id":24031,"date":"2020-04-29T19:29:13","date_gmt":"2020-04-29T19:29:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/uncategorized\/2020\/04\/29\/these-are-the-technologies-the-national-geospatial-intelligence-agency-needs\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T18:20:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T18:20:07","slug":"these-are-the-technologies-the-national-geospatial-intelligence-agency-needs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/intel-geoint\/2020\/04\/29\/these-are-the-technologies-the-national-geospatial-intelligence-agency-needs\/","title":{"rendered":"These are the technologies the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency needs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Analytics and modeling, data management and software engineering are among the top tech priorities for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, according to a document released Wednesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nga.mil\/MediaRoom\/PressReleases\/Pages\/NGA-Tech-Focus-Areas-chart-path-for-geospatial-technologies.aspx\" target=_blank>The 2020 Technology Focus Areas publication<\/a> is a guide for industry on how the agency is approaching technology broadly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis document is focused on our needs, rather than specific technologies,\u201d said Mark Munsell, NGA chief technology officer. \u201cThe changes we must make cannot only occur within the confines of NGA \u2014 they require the innovative spirit of industry to find new and unique solutions to some of our most difficult challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NGA\u2019s five technology focus areas are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Advanced Analytics and Modeling<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Data Management<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Modern Software Engineering<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Artificial Intelligence<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Future of Work<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The publication is an update to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/c2-comms\/satellites\/2019\/06\/03\/nga-chief-calls-on-industry-to-focus-on-the-hard-problems\/\" target=_blank>one that was first released in 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe published the first NGA Technology Focus Areas as a way to share our technology needs with the larger geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) community. As our needs and expertise continue to grow and evolve, it is incumbent on us to provide an updated document reflecting these changes,\u201d said Munsell in his introduction to the document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agency also plans to issue its first technology strategy in the coming weeks, which will highlight how NGA plans to change in order to address these technology challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTogether, these two products illustrate the direction we are moving NGA\u2019s technology efforts. Please read them both; they provide a roadmap to protecting and advancing our nation\u2019s GEOINT advantage for years to come,\u201d said
