funds secure apps projects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Homeland Security has awarded $8.6 million to five companies for development of secure apps for the federal government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The five companies, which each received between $1.4 million and $1.9 million, are Qualcomm, Lookout, United Technologies Researcher Center, Apcerto and Red Hat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Mobile Application Security, or MAS, projects are part of the Mobile Security research program at DHS\u2019s Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe recently launched MAS project is focused on continuous validation and threat protection for mobile apps and integrating security throughout the mobile app life cycle,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/science-and-technology\/news\/2017\/09\/06\/news-release-dhs-st-awards-86-million-5-rd-projects\">said a DHS news release<\/a>. \u201cIt also is developing a security framework and integrated models that will enable the development of secure mobile apps for mission use by DHS components, other government agencies and enterprise organizations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The various research projects by the five companies spans multiple aspects of cybersecurity, including Qualcomm\u2019s embedding security in a device\u2019s hardware; Lookout\u2019s vulnerability detection; United Technologies\u2019 mobile device\/cloud environment; Apcerto\u2019s apps rating system; and Red Hat\u2019s integration of security into app
