With the completion of the booster series, ARRW will begin all-up-round testing later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brig. Gen. Heath Collins, program executive officer for the Air Force\u2019s armament directorate, said the flight test expands the weapon\u2019s operational envelope. According to Lockheed, the test showcased ARRW\u2019s ability to reach and withstand hypersonic speeds and will help the program gather data to inform future testing. It also confirmed the weapon\u2019s ability to safely separate from an aircraft and hit targets from standoff distances, the company said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hypersonic vehicles can travel and maneuver at speeds above Mach 5, and ARRW is the Air Force\u2019s first air-launched hypersonic weapon. The missile is designed to destroy time-sensitive targets and, once fielded, will expand the service\u2019s precision-strike portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Air Force\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/air\/2022\/05\/17\/successful-test-could-rally-air-force-hypersonics-program\/\" target=\"_blank\">last successful ARRW flight occurred in May<\/a> and broke a streak of three testing failures for the weapon, which have slowed the service\u2019s plans for beginning to field the system this year. Congress slashed ARRW procurement funding by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/congress\/2022\/03\/10\/congress-nixes-air-force-plans-to-buy-hypersonics-this-year-after-test-failures\/\" target=\"_blank\">nearly $161 million<\/a> for fiscal 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The service\u2019s fiscal 2023 budget request bypassed procurement funding for ARRW.
