New technologies target them and take them out"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two separate technologies were used together to knock dozens of drones out of the sky during a recent Army exercise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">High-powered microwave and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2018\/02\/28\/soldiers-in-europe-are-now-using-lasers-to-shoot-down-drones\/\">high-energy laser<\/a> systems were demonstrated by Raytheon at an Army exercise at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, in December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The technology engaged and destroyed 45 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/air\/2017\/07\/03\/turkey-s-increasing-reliance-on-drone-systems\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">drones<\/a> at the Maneuver Fires Integrated Experiment at the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence, according to a report in National Defense magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When used in tandem, the high-power microwaves and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/land\/2018\/02\/13\/us-army-could-get-laser-for-short-range-air-defense-in-under-five-years\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">high-energy lasers<\/a> are an effective and affordable defense to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2017\/10\/12\/army-researchers-are-working-on-mapping-tech-that-can-help-you-see-the-battlefield\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">unmanned aerial vehicle threats<\/a>, according to the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationaldefensemagazine.org\/articles\/2018\/3\/20\/raytheon-demonstrates-directed-energy-weapons-at-army-exercise\" title=\"\" class=\"\"> report<\/a>.
