uses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Data from the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) will be accessible at the Air Force&#8217;s new data utilization lab in Boulder, Colorado, according to an announcement by SBIRS manufacturer Lockheed Martin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Potential uses span a variety of areas, from battlefield surveillance to monitoring forest fires. &#8220;SBIRS uses powerful overhead sensors that collect and transmit significant amounts of infrared data,&#8221; said David Sheridan, vice president of Lockheed Martin&#8217;s Overhead Persistent Infrared division. &#8220;By giving researchers access to this data, our objective is for them to find new, innovative uses for improving situational awareness \u2014 whether it is for tactical
