Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., held a closed Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee roundtable on AI with various experts and members of industry, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/armedservicesforms.house.gov\/news\/email\/show.aspx?ID=AMYE67BIEA6TL25A2EKBHNZWTM\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">a release from the committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stefanik earlier this year introduced a bill (since included in the annual defense policy legislation) seeking to develop a commission to review advances in AI, identify AI needs and make recommendations to organize the federal government for threats in AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/congress\/2018\/03\/21\/new-bill-would-prepare-us-for-artificial-intelligence-threat\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/AP_17303438151967.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">New bill would prepare US for artificial intelligence threat<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Warning artificial intelligence will revolutionize warfare, a key House lawmaker has opened the pod bay doors to legislation aimed at preparing for the threat posed by intelligent machines.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are encouraged by the department\u2019s aggressive efforts with Project MAVEN, and are interested in exploring other applications of AI that combine the strengths of government, industry and academia to forge strong and lasting public-private partnerships,\u201d Stefanik said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have seen progress in Department of Defense artificial intelligence pilot programs, but now we must scale to success.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/intel-geoint\/isr\/2018\/05\/02\/what-the-pentagon-is-learning-from-its-massive-machine-learning-project\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"212\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/artificial-intelligence.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">What the Pentagon is learning from its massive machine learning project<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">Project Maven has already deployed in five or six locations across Africa and the Middle East. Specific companies that participated included Pilot.ai, FireEye, Accenture and Boston Consulting Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their participation enabled the committee to understand industry\u2019s approach in the AI sphere, as well as opportunities and challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cArtificial intelligence and machine learning are topics of regular conversation and deep interest among the members of this subcommittee,\u201d Stefanik said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOver the last year, we have explored technology issues that could drastically change the way wars are fought, impacting not only our national security, but our economic security as well. Yesterday was a good next step in identifying where corollary successes exist within the commercial sector and artificial intelligence solutions have already demonstrated quantifiable
