{"id":28951,"date":"2016-01-08T22:42:11","date_gmt":"2016-01-08T22:42:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/uncategorized\/2016\/01\/08\/amazon-prime-video-expanding-on-demand-content-to-troops-overseas\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T18:26:45","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T18:26:45","slug":"amazon-prime-video-expanding-on-demand-content-to-troops-overseas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/it-networks\/2016\/01\/08\/amazon-prime-video-expanding-on-demand-content-to-troops-overseas\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazon Prime Video expanding on-demand content to troops overseas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amazon announced Friday that its streaming Prime Video service is now available to U.S.\u00a0troops overseas in 24 locations across Japan, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Turkey, Romania\u00a0and Djibouti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;That means military members and their families who reside within U.S. military bases abroad\u00a0and who are Prime members have unlimited access to thousands of movies and TV episodes available in the U.S. Prime Video catalog,&#8221; the company wrote in a blog post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Military members and their families can just go to the Amazon Video app for TVs, connected devices and mobile devices,&#8221; or directly on Amazon&#8217;s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Competing with streaming providers Netflix and Hulu, Prime Video is included free with all Amazon Prime subscriptions in the U.S.\u00a0But digital distribution typically is blocked in most foreign locations, making availability to\u00a0troops stationed overseas problematic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amazon began unblocking video streaming to a handful of military locations starting in 2014 and has been expanding that offering since. The online mega-retailer \u2014 and growing digital delivery giant \u2014 says work remains underway to continue expanding availability to more overseas locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Amazon will begin offering up its own stable of original programming through the overseas Armed Forces Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shows such as &#8220;Transparent,&#8221;
