The nearly $10 billion value includes the assumption of $2.8 billion in CSRA debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe acquisition of CSRA represents a significant strategic step in expanding the capabilities and customer base of GDIT,\u201d Phebe Novakovic, chairman and CEO of General Dynamics, said in a news release. \u201cWe see substantial opportunities to provide cost-effective IT solutions and services to the Department of Defense, the intelligence community and federal civilian agencies. The combination enables GDIT to grow revenue and profits at an accelerated rate. It will allow us to deliver even more innovative, leading-edge solutions to our customers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/defensenews\/industry\/2018\/01\/26\/general-dynamics-to-pump-nearly-2-billion-into-their-shipyards\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/635742001196336770-sub-paintjpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">General Dynamics to pump nearly $2 billion into its shipyards<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The CEO of General Dynamics says the investment is &quot;in response to the significant increased demand from our Navy customer.&quot;<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Revenue growth for the General Dynamics Information Systems and Technology arm, which includes GDIT and Mission Systems, was slow in 2017, Novakovic noted during the company\u2019s 2017 earnings call, despite a healthy backlog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Novakovic pointed to the impact of the federal government\u2019s continuing resolutions on short-cycle business and the new administration\u2019s slower pace of awards, particularly in the federal civilian business, as explanation for the lackluster sales. She also pointed to the Army\u2019s decision <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/it-networks\/2017\/09\/27\/battlefield-network-backbone-takes-hit-in-armys-effort-to-reboot-strategy\/\">to stop funding WIN-T<\/a> and some other related communications programs until they completed their network and battlefield review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhile both defense and [federal and civilian] picked up during the second half of the year, we simply did not have enough time before year-end to recover fully,\u201d she told analysts in January. \u201cThis leads me to be confident that the growth in this business will materialize beginning in 2018.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the acquisition by GD might have been unexpected, CSRA finding a buyer was not. It comes a little more than two years after the company was formed from the split of Computer Sciences Corp. into two \u2014 with CSC maintaining the commercial business and CSRA the public sector side. The split came after an extensive turnaround effort to spur growth after notable declines in revenue. Speculation at the time was that the company was either looking to get acquired in full, or split. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This deal comes roughly a year and a half after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/industry\/2016\/01\/26\/lockheed-to-pair-is-gs-business-with-leidos\/\" title=\"\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Lockheed Martin completed the separation of its Information Systems &amp; Global Solutions <\/a>business segment, which merged with Leidos Holdings, Inc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shares of CSRA rocketed 31 percent in premarket
