Gen. Pat Ryder, a Pentagon spokesman, told reporters during a briefing, as well as a deconfliction cell at U.S. Africa Command headquarters in Germany to help coordinate efforts will allied countries also evacuating their citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The destroyer Truxtun is off the coast of Sudan, Ryder said, while the expeditionary mobile base Lewis B. Puller is en route, both of which can provide transport of evacuees. Surveillance assets include unmanned aerial vehicles, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2023\/04\/20\/us-military-prepares-for-possible-sudan-embassy-evacuation\/\" target=\"_blank\"> first positioned troops at Camp Lemmonier, Djibouti,<\/a> on Thursday in anticipation of an evacuation, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/sudan-fighting-ceasefire-trapped-civilians-evacuations-foreigners-983cb600ea3f878c5f4907965b4d5d3d\" target=\"_blank\">as warring factions of Sudan\u2019s military<\/a> battled each other in Khartoum\u2019s street. The embassy on Saturday issued an alert that \u201cdue to the uncertain security situation in Khartoum and closure of the airport, it is not currently safe to undertake a U.S. government-coordinated evacuation of private U.S. citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn just the last 36 hours since the embassy evacuation was completed, we\u2019ve continued to be in close communication with U.S citizens and individuals affiliated with the U.S. government to provide assistance and facilitate available departure routes for those seeking to move to safety via land, air and sea,\u201d Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A United Nations convoy carrying some Americans arrived in Port Sudan on Monday as
