WASHINGTON \u2014 The U.S. Department of Defense\u2019s zero-trust strategy will be published in the coming days, giving the public a fresh look at its plan to achieve a new level of cybersecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pentagon Chief Information Officer John Sherman<\/a> said Monday that he approved the plan \u201clast Thursday\u201d and it\u2019s now \u201cgoing through the public review process.\u201d The documents, he said, should be out \u201cvery soon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The strategy will lay out the Pentagon\u2019s approach to realizing zero trust, which comprises more than 100 activities and so-called pillars, including applications, automation and analytics, to keep critical data secure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zero trust is a new paradigm for cybersecurity, one that assumes networks are always at risk. As a result, continuous validation of users and devices<\/a> is needed. The practice is often likened to \u201cnever trust, always verify\u201d \u2014 or, as Sherman put it: \u201cYou truly trust no one or no thing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t
