Bush is now sporting the world\u2019s first air drone warfare center, a control room that will host operators of the MQ-25 Stingray refueling drone in the not-too-distant future, the Navy has confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ground control station was part of a multiyear effort that took place aboard Bush during multiple ship maintenance stints and between deployments, Naval Air Systems Command, or NAVAIR, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Along with the required software and hardware, the drone nerve center features the first fully operational and integrated unmanned carrier aviation mission control system that the command says is critical to using the Stingray in operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bush will conduct at-sea testing of the center early next year, according to NAVAIR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The control station is the latest step toward getting the Stingray into the fleet, where it will refuel fighter jets midflight, helping the sea service\u2019s strike arm to stay airborne longer \u2014 a capability that would be particularly helpful should war with China break out in the watery expanse of the West Pacific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"6154\" height=\"3461\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/unmanned-center.jfif_.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-112109\" srcset=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/unmanned-center.jfif_.jpg 6154w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/unmanned-center.jfif_.jpg?resize=300,169 300w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/unmanned-center.jfif_.jpg?resize=768,432 768w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/unmanned-center.jfif_.jpg?resize=1024,576 1024w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/unmanned-center.jfif_.jpg?resize=1536,864 1536w, https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/unmanned-center.jfif_.jpg?resize=2048,1152 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 6154px) 100vw, 6154px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Behold, the world&#8217;s first unmanned air warfare center, recently installed aboard the aircraft carrier George H.W. (U.S. Navy)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Standing up the Bush\u2019s drone control room \u201clays the foundation\u201d for how the Navy will operate and control unmanned aircraft, Unmanned Carrier Aviation (PMA-268) Program Manager Capt. Daniel Fucito said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While such systems will initially support the Stingray, they will also be used for other services\u2019 unmanned systems, such as the Air Force\u2019s collaborative combat aircraft program, which seeks to pair air drones with unmanned aircraft in a so-called \u201cair wing of the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Such systems are also being planned for installation aboard fellow carriers Carl Vinson, Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan beginning in fiscal 2025, according to NAVAIR.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The carrier George H.W.
