The IFPC system will consist of a mix of hard-kill interceptors as well as a laser and a high-power microwave capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/unmanned\/uas\/2023\/08\/08\/pentagons-counter-drone-office-to-demo-swarm-destruction-in-2024\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/GettyImages-187347653.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Pentagon\u2019s counter-drone office to demo swarm destruction in 2024<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The Joint Counter-small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Office will tackle drone swarms in its next quest to find a capability to counter the rising threat.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Army is also now receiving the first 12 IFPC launcher prototypes from Dynetics; these will head into operational tests in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The IFPC-HPM, Epirus said, is a counter-unmanned aircraft system-swarm capability developed under a December 2022 contract awarded by the Army\u2019s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The venture capital-backed Epirus created its original product, Leonidas,<b> <\/b>as a cost-effective way to counter electronic threats as the Army grappled with using expensive missiles to take out cheap drone threats. Leonidas can fire rapidly on targets with \u201cnear-instant effects\u201d without overheating, the company has said, and the system eliminates the need to reload.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOperators can precisely and safely control the system\u2019s HPM pulse to prosecute single UAS and swarms, depending on the threat environment,\u201d the company statement says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Epirus \u201csuccessfully\u201d completed a recent government acceptance test of the Leonidas-based IFPC-HPM in Nevada, the company said in the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The system was \u201cstressed\u201d in a range of scenarios and demonstrated both its capability to<b> <\/b>defeat swarms as well as its reliability, the company said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The system will continue to undergo Army evaluation and testing that will feed into the development of tactics, techniques, and procedures for operational use, according to the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the contract with RCCTO, an additional three prototypes will subsequently be delivered to the Army. Those systems will also undergo more developmental testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Epirus has grown rapidly, raising $80 million in total capital within two years of its 2018 founding. Large contractors like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/2020\/07\/20\/epirus-venture-backed-startup-inks-deal-with-northrop-for-counter-drone-tech\/\" target=\"_blank\">Northrop Grumman<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2021\/10\/25\/general-dynamics-epirus-team-up-to-integrate-counter-drone-swarm-system-on-combat-vehicles\/\" target=\"_blank\">General Dynamics<\/a> and
