Northrop Grumman said it successfully tested software that can receive, share and tailor data on handheld devices used by U.S. troops without the need to link to a cloud server miles away from the battlefield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Testing of the \u201ccombat edge software\u201d involved Link 16 data, the Virginia-based company said in an announcement Feb. 21, and represented another step toward realizing the Pentagon\u2019s Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control<\/a> vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CJADC2 campaign aims to connect disparate databases and forces across land, air, sea, space and cyber, enabling the best-positioned and best-armed force to strike first. Future adversaries will attempt to disrupt those links. Northrop\u2019s software accounts for that as well as what troops actually need in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve come a long way. It is no longer just a question of, \u2018Hey, it\u2019s hard to get data somewhere,\u2019\u201d Kevin Berkowitz, Northrop\u2019s vice president of secure processing and networks, told C4ISRNET in an interview<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s now about getting the right data somewhere and getting it there quickly, and in a way that\u2019s meaningful for the end user.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t
