The visual feed can help pilots and drivers navigate amid hazardous weather and can assist troops detect and target opposing forces over long distances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The award for the third-generation sensors is the culmination of \u201cmany years of research and development on what is an extremely complex, cutting-edge technology,\u201d Lareina Adams, a terrestrial sensors project manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/cyber\/2023\/05\/24\/army-revamps-program-executive-offices-to-sharpen-cyber-focus\/\" target=\"_blank\">at the program office<\/a>, said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mark Kitz, who led the office until late June, previously told C4ISRNET that future FLIR products would \u201chelp define\u201d how ground combat platforms operate and how scout operations are conducted. The 3rd Generation FLIR B-Kit will be installed on the Abrams main battle tank to start. It could also be fitted into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/industry\/techwatch\/2023\/06\/26\/heres-who-will-move-forward-in-the-bradley-replacement-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\">Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicles<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RTX\u2019s efforts will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rtx.com\/news\/news-center\/2023\/07\/05\/rtx-awarded-117-5-million-by-us-army-for-advanced-targeting-sensor-systems\" target=\"_blank\">based in McKinney, Texas<\/a>. The company over the past two decades delivered more than 25,000 predecessor second-generation FLIR sensors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RTX is the second-largest defense contractor in the world when ranked by defense revenue, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/people.defensenews.com\/top-100\/\" target=\"_blank\">Defense News Top 100 list<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company earlier this year secured a separate, $118 million deal with the Army for a batch of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/industry\/2023\/06\/21\/rtx-wins-118-million-army-order-for-drone-target-sensors\/\" target=\"_blank\"> advanced target sensors destined for drones<\/a>, namely the
