The jammer demonstrated the \u201cability to defeat threats\u201d while mounted to a Sikorsky MH-60R helicopter, typically used for anti-submarine warfare, the company said Dec. 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finer details about electronic warfare performance and programming are often not disclosed due to their sensitivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe AOEW system is one of the most advanced, complex electronic warfare systems ever developed,\u201d Deon Viergutz, vice president of spectrum convergence<a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/intel-geoint\/sensors\/2023\/11\/16\/lockheed-will-deliver-advanced-tpy-4-radar-to-air-force-for-evaluation\/\" target=\"_blank\"> at Lockheed<\/a>, said in a statement. \u201cAOEW is a force multiplier for our sailors that will help them dominate and control the battlespace without ever firing a single shot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. military is attempting to reinvigorate its electronic warfare arsenal after years of post-Cold War atrophy. Weapons guidance, friendly communications and suppression of enemy observations all rely on manipulation of the electromagnetic spectrum. The system can work independently aboard the helicopter \u2014 either the MH-60R, as was tried, or the MH-60S \u2014 and can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/electronic-warfare\/2022\/01\/10\/northrop-looks-to-adapt-electronic-attack-system-for-smaller-ships\/\" target=\"_blank\">tie back to other systems aboard a vessel<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is designed with evolutionary capabilities, set up to be completely programmable so that it can develop, deliver and deploy new techniques as the threat landscape changes,\u201d Viergutz said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AOEW was previously evaluated at Lockheed\u2019s facility in Syracuse, New York. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4isrnet.com\/intel-geoint\/sensors\/2023\/11\/09\/lockheed-to-ship-advanced-sentinel-a4-radars-for-us-army-tests\/\" target=\"_blank\">Reporters visiting in early November<\/a> were shown the pod. Further testing with helicopters is planned for 2024, and Lockheed will incorporate the feedback. Delivery of the first AOEW units is expected in the coming year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lockheed is the largest government contractor in the world when ranked by defense-related revenue, according to Defense New Top 100 analysis.
