{"id":35901,"date":"2022-12-27T17:56:36","date_gmt":"2022-12-27T17:56:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/uncategorized\/2022\/12\/27\/navy-declares-full-rate-production-for-marines-ch-53k-heavy-lift-helo\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T00:47:59","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T00:47:59","slug":"navy-declares-full-rate-production-for-marines-ch-53k-heavy-lift-helo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/c4isrnet\/industry\/2022\/12\/27\/navy-declares-full-rate-production-for-marines-ch-53k-heavy-lift-helo\/","title":{"rendered":"US Navy declares full-rate production for Marine Corps\u2019 CH-53K helo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2014 The U.S. Navy last week<b> <\/b>declared the Marine Corps\u2019 CH-53K King Stallion heavy lift helicopter ready for full-rate production, allowing the Marines to double their annual buys of the aircraft in the next three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jay Stefany, the acting assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development and acquisition, signed a memo Dec. 21 confirming the move to a higher production rate was appropriate based on how the helicopter did in testing and the program\u2019s cost and production line performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, Marine Corps Col. Kate Fleeger, the Navy\u2019s heavy lift helicopter program manager, said the service has \u201csuccessfully demonstrated the performance and reliability of this aircraft.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith FRP we will continue to build on the strong manufacturing, sustainment and support that has been established for the CH-53K,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sikorsky, the helicopter\u2019s manufacturer, said it is already procuring long-lead items and critical materials to support this increased production rate at its Connecticut facility. The supply base includes more than 200 companies across 35 states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRamping up production of the most technologically advanced helicopter in the world allows the U.S. Marine Corps to build out its CH-53K King Stallion fleet and support mission success,\u201d Bill Falk, Sikorsky\u2019s director of the CH-53K program, said in a statement. \u201cThis production authorization stabilizes Sikorsky\u2019s domestic supply chain and is a testament to our enduring partnership with the Marine Corps.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Navy has awarded Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/naval\/2022\/04\/06\/marine-corps-nearing-initial-operational-capability-for-ch-53k-heavy-lift-helicopter\/\" target=\"_blank\">six low-rate initial production contracts for 42 aircraft<\/a>. The service has already awarded long-lead contracts for Lots 7 and 8, the first two lots under full-rate production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Navy budget documents, the Marine Corps intends to buy 10 aircraft in fiscal 2023, 15 in FY24, and 21 a year beginning in FY25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Marine Corps in April <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/naval\/2022\/04\/25\/marine-corps-declares-its-heavy-lift-helicopter-operational\/\">declared initial operational capability for the helicopter<\/a>, meaning the service has sufficient training, logistics and spares to support the first deployment of this aircraft. That first deployment is planned for FY24. The aircraft is expected to reach full operational capability by FY29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Marine Corps intends to buy 200 aircraft, keeping the production line hot through
