The opening blast, from 2013, is even synchronized to the music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b><a href=\"http:\/\/link.defensenews.com\/join\/5ba\/sign-up\">To get all the news about space and strategic systems delivered to your inbox every month, be sure to sign up for our Military Space Report newsletter.&nbsp;<\/a><\/b><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SpaceX chief Elon Musk can afford to poke fun at his early, pioneering efforts at rocket recycling, now that his private company has pulled off 16 successful booster landings. The most recent occurred last week in Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bvim4rsNHkQ?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe messed up a lot before it finally worked, but there\u2019s some epic explosion footage,\u201d Musk recently said on Twitter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In one video shot, Musk looks over a rocket\u2019s charred remains with the caption: \u201cIt\u2019s just a scratch.\u201d After another huge fiery explosion, this one on the company\u2019s barge, the caption reads: \u201cWell, technically, it did land &#8230; just not in one piece.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Musk tweeted Thursday that when the Falcon rocket\u2019s upper stage and the cargo enclosure can also be retrieved and reused, launch costs will drop by a factor of more than 100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For now, SpaceX\u2019s first-stage boosters \u2014 15 stories tall \u2014 separate shortly after liftoff and fly back to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station or an ocean platform for a vertical touchdown. Until the company\u2019s recovery efforts \u2014 unique among rocket makers launching spacecraft into orbit \u2014 these segments were discarded at sea.
