Jim Stenger said the Corps made the decision \u201cout of an abundance of caution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Marine Corps is working on identifying and fixing the root cause of the problem,\u201d Stenger added. \u201cRealistic training is a vital component of readiness, and the Marine Corps is committed to ensuring Marines train under the safest conditions possible; this includes ensuring the functionality of vehicles and equipment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\t<aside class=\"smg-interstitial-link wp-block-smg-interstitial-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/marinecorpstimes\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2020\/11\/10\/marine-corps-receives-first-amphibious-combat-vehicle\/\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__media\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"256\" src=\"https:\/\/one.sightlinemg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/4SSLU6IIENHBNOBMIK76AWZWZI.jpg.jpg?w=300\" class=\"smg-interstitial-link__image wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"smg-interstitial-link__content\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"smg-interstitial-link__kicker\">Related<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"smg-interstitial-link__title\">Marine Corps receives first amphibious combat vehicle<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"smg-interstitial-link__excerpt\">The new ACVs, destined to replace the Vietnam-era amphibious assault vehicle, were sent to Delta Company, 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, based out of Twentynine Palms, California.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Marines received their first ACVs in late 2020. The vehicle is a replacement for the Vietnam War-era Amphibious Assault Vehicle, or AAV. The first ACVs went to Delta Company 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion in Twentynine Palms, California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Waves of ACVs then flowed into the Marine fleet earlier this year, with plans at the time to deliver shipments every two to three months, starting in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ACV is not the vehicle in which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2021\/03\/25\/the-marine-corps-amphibious-assault-vehicle-that-sank-and-killed-9-should-never-have-left-the-motor-pool-slides-into-investigation-show\/\" target=\"_blank\">eight Marines and a Navy corpsman died<\/a> in July 2020 during amphibious operations. That was the older AAV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ACV came after the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle was canceled in 2011. More than $3 billion was spent on that program before it was halted, according to a 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/sgp.fas.org\/crs\/weapons\/R42723.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Congressional Research Service report<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Corps resurrected the AAV replacement in March 2014. The service selected BAE Systems to produce the ACV in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That same year, the Director, Operational Test and Evaluation annual report showed that the ACV was successful in 15 of 16 missions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report made the following recommendations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Modify the infantry troop commander\u2019s station to make it easier to move between the hatch and seat.<\/li><li>Assess the capability of all existing Marine Corps recovery assets to recover the ACV.<\/li><li>Investigate options for preventing damage to steering\/suspension when encountering battlefield debris, such as concertina wire.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A subsequent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dote.osd.mil\/Portals\/97\/pub\/reports\/FY2020\/navy\/2020acv.pdf?ver=AYnmVr-2qiW6qtmSDJ9FRA%3d%3d\" target=\"_blank\">2021 report<\/a> from the DOTE showed that the ACV did not \u201cmeet its 69-hour mean time between operational mission failures threshold.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The pause was due to a problem with the vehicle&#8217;s
