Col. Ramunas Baronas, the commander of the Logistic Support Command of the Lithuanian military, was quoted as saying in the statement.\u00a0<br\/><br\/> Under the plan, the vehicles will be operated by the Lithuanian land force and\u00a0delivered in the years 2017 to 2018\u00a0along with spare parts, maintenance tools and other equipment for the vehicles&#8217; crews.<br\/><br\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lithuania has intensified efforts to upgrade its military capabilities following Russia\u2019s annexation of Ukraine\u2019s Crimean peninsula. For 2017, the country&#8217;s government allocated a defense budget of\u00a0\u20ac723.5 million (US $768.9 million), an increase of about 26 percent compared\u00a0with Lithuania\u2019s military expenditure this year. Of these, about 43 percent is to be allocated to acquisitions of new weapons and military equipment as well as infrastructural investments for the Lithuanian Armed Forces, according to data from the Defence Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to the fact that the German Bundeswehr was to decommission the vehicles, the acquisition was worth some\u00a0\u20ac1.6 million, according to the Lithuanian ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The M577 is based on the M113 tracked vehicle.
